Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you all! We woke up quite early and opened presents - Dean got me what I've been dreaming of for months, the Michael Kors Camille twisted black watch. Now that my unsightly bump/cyst is gone and my scar is disappearing it's nice to have my wrist being admired instead of inspected.
I hope you got what you wished for and that all the gifts you gave where what they wished for!
Merry Christmas!

New Kicks-Wedge Sneakers

I've been ignoring this trend for a long time but these gray and pink wedge sneakers had enough nostalgia factor to make me a convert. Something about them makes me think of my mother's Jane Fonda videos from my childhood and smile. Plus, they are surprisingly comfy! Expect to see a lot more of these when I get back to my style posts (hopefully soon!)

25 Days Post Surgery - Ganglion Cyst Scar

As promised, here's a look at my wrist. We're at 25 days later and I'd say it's healing quite nicely. It appears that there's some flaking happening on one end which might be normal. The absorbable stitches are hidden inside the scar so I won't need to have them removed. Boxing day will mark exactly a month so I'll try and remember to get that shot then.

Ready for the Holidays?

How did the holidays sneak up on me like this? I feel as if the random snow-gate and my surgery made me lose track of time. I've done most of my shopping but I will be braving some stores tomorrow to get a few final suprises for Dean.
I'll be at work all of next week. My next-in-command is traveling out of town and since I took off last Christmas I thought it would only be fair for her to get this Christmas off. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the excitement of the week.
My wrist is healing nicely and I'll post some pics of the progress. I've been rubbing Mederma on it daily and am fully convinced that I will end up with the smallest scar ever once all is said and done. I have some tenderness around the area, but it seems to be lessening by the day.
I now have a makeshift 'laptop' using my Galaxy Tab 7.7. I got a super-cheap keyboard dock from Newegg ($25!) and it has served me well so far. I'm typing this on it right now! My only gripe is that it resets my default keyboard back from Swift to!
This weekend I also plan to catch up on some reruns of DirtySexyMoney on HuluPlus- I loved that show when it was originally on the air and look forward to re-experiencing the awesomeness.
Enjoy the last few days of the holidays and keep your fingers crossed that my Christmas present is the black watch I've had my eye on from Michael Kors. I'm in love with it!!

12 Days Post Op- Ganglion Cyst Removal

It's been 12 days since my surgery and here is what my scar looks like so far. I'm applying Mederma daily and hopefully in a few weeks it will barely be noticeable. My main issue now is working on getting full range of motion back in my wrist... Pointing it down is still a bit tender and I can't make it go all the way without pushing with my other hand. I'm doing the exercises the doctor recommended- progress report later!

Frozen Over

Snowstorm 12.6.2013

Snowstorm 12.6.2013

Woke up this morning to  rare event- snow in DFW! Fortunately I'm on vacation this week so I can stay in my pajamas in bed...except when Seth dragged me out to check out the scene outside. Dean unfortunately had to go to work once he scraped his Jeep out. It is cold!

Here's why Texas weather is insane... yesterday the high was 81 degrees. and today- icy snow!
On the plus side, it really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Cast Off!

I'm at the doctor's office now getting my stitches out. So far the cast is off and here's what is underneath.

Project Home Gym

For the past few months Dean has been fastidious about working out regularly- me, not so much. I finally decided to get on the bandwagon and we spent yesterday converting part of the garage to our new home gym. We put the Wii out there too so I can have more room to do my dancing. Our plan is to work out together each morning- it will be a good way for us to start the day off right and spend a little time together before we dash off to work.

Dream Item: Givenchy Antigona

Givenchy Antigona

In July I walked past the Givenchy store on the Champs Elysee and fell hard for the Antigona I saw in the window. However, at several thousand euros it just wasn't an expense that made sense in my lifestyle. But, I couldn't get that shape out of my mind- I spent the next several months scouring the web to find a reasonable priced, pre-owned color-block version. Finally, last weekend I found this stunner from a buyer in London. I had my reservations, but once it arrived yesterday I knew it was the genuine article for an absolute steal.I love this bag.

Givenchy Antigona

So, the irony of course is that I received my Antigona but won't be able to enjoy it for at least a week- I need to get the massive cast removed next week as the colors do not work well together!

1 Day after Surgery

Post op. Ganglion cyst surgery

I made it! I had my surgery yesterday and it was all a bit of a blur. We arrived at 11:30 for a 1pm start time and got paperwork and vitals done once I arrived. They pushed a number of anti-nausea meds before and then almost as soon as they pushed the anesthesia I was out like a light.

Baylor Surgicare before wrist surgery
I was numb most of the day yesterday. Today has been a bit of a crapshoot but I'm having trouble with typing for extended periods. I'll try again tomorrow for Thanksgiving!

2 Days to Ganglion Cyst Surgery

For the past few months I have had this growth on my left wrist. It's come and gone a few times but for several weeks it has been pretty steady in its current form- not cute:

Even with my wrist straight it is pretty pronounced. When bent, it looks like an alien is trying to rip through my skin.

Last week I finally went to a consultation with a highly recommended hand surgeon and he confirmed it is a ganglion cyst and recommended surgery to remove it. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. For anyone else thinking of getting this surgery, here is what has happened so far:

1. Payments: I have Federal BCBS through Dean and with our excellent coverage I have $150 that I had to pay the doctor and $100 I will have to pay the facility on the day of surgery. Not bad.

2. Preparation: No food or drink after midnight the night before. I am getting general anesthesia (I'll be put completely under) and I must admit I'm a little challenged by the idea of no water all day. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

3. Recovery: I have a few weeks of healing ahead of me so I picked an excellent time. I am having this surgery on Tuesday with an ambitious plan to come to work on Wednesday then off the rest of the week for Thanksgiving and then the following week for vacation.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Fingers crossed!

8 Days with the Galaxy Note 8

Last week I stopped by my local Best Buy to look at the Galaxy Note 8. I fell madly in love with the stylus and within a few hours I had set up an account with AT&T and had a new Note in my hands. I made a pros and cons list  and the high points were the stylus, micro USB charging (i.e. now all my devices could use the same charger), and newer features. The negatives were the color (ugh- Fisher Price white), high rate plan (with the Next plan I'd be at about $55 a month) and the larger size. But, I had an S-pen! Really, that was all I needed to know.

The first few days were glorious. I jotted all my notes by hand, highlighted them freely and shared everything to Evernote. I couldn't get S-Notes to sync directly with Evernote but it was easy enough to use the share feature and upload a jpeg file.
I made some solid investments to my device- I bought a black skin from Decal-girl to hide the stark white bezel. I bought a Zagg full body to add some grip. I wouldn't let the negative voices in my head win.
But finally, last night, I had to come to grips with reality. The weight of this Note was literally and metaphorically too heavy. I made a list of the things I could no longer overlook:
1. The size was just too unwieldy. Even though my 7.7 seemed negligibly smaller than the Note 8 on paper, in my hand the difference was insurmountable.
2. The cost of the operation was too high. I went with the Next plan from AT&T which would cost me $55 per month ($25 for the installment payment, $30 for the data plan).  My current plan for my Tab 7.7 is $10 on top of my Verizon phone plan.
3. Build. From the excessive use of plastic, to the large bezel to the white I just wasn't thrilled. The physical home button also gave me some pause. And my main grievance was that intermittently the screen would simply stop taking input for a second or 2. No reason, just happened.
I pulled out my Tab 7.7 last night and fell in love with the smooth lines, muted tones and solid build all over again. And right then I knew I was going to have to take the Note back.
I learned a few lessons from this excursion- the main one being that the S-pen experience alone is not enough to override all the other shortcomings. Yes, it's nice to have a pen periodically but even that was a double-edged sword. Most of my workflow during working hours involved Due Today and Evernote. Switching between those and the pen app made things more complicated than they needed to be. Usually after I make general notes on a meeting in Evernote I copy and paste the actionable portions into tasks. With handwritten notes that wasn't able to do that.
As I returned the Note 8 to AT&T I waited for the pang of never came. That told me all I needed to know.

Fuchsia and Furla

I've worn this suit a handful of times before but only when I added my Furla Candy Bag did I truly feel I was wearing it. This is probably the last time this year I'll be able to wear this spring/summer suit but I'll look forward to wearing it next year.
My Candy bag meanwhile will get plenty of wear this winter. I just ordered a pair of brown pumps to have more to coordinate with it.

Last Summer White

Even though it's after Labor day I shirked the white rule and went with this Lane Bryant dress today. It's an a-line faux wrap dress that I feel very feminine and curvy in. My boxy Kate Spade Alessa added some hard lines for contrast.

Oh So Very Jackie-O

I got this dress from K&G a few months ago and never got round to wearing it. I also had mixed feelings about the gold skinny belt it came with. But as I tried to tie it in to my blue LV Alma, I stumbled upon my asymmetric navy belt. I liked the combination with the peplum dress and felt very Jackie-O and ladylike.

Fashion Friday-Obi Wan Kinobi

I bought this Obi belt quite a while ago but completely forgot about it and dismissed it as too bold. Then I bought these red ankle jeans for our Paris trip and this idea was born. Paired with my pre-owned Louis Vuitton Ribera I loved this look for this Friday. A smooth recovery from my recent Friday fail.

Very Vuitton

Yep, that just happened. I am SO banned after this preloved Louis Vuitton Alma in Epi blue. No, really. I mean it this time. No more.

Bauletto and Blues

I'm back on my handbag ban especially while I sell a few off over the next few weeks. One of the major purchases was this preloved Fendi bauletto in white- a color I never thought I'd get a bag in. I held my bag at arms length all day in an attempt to avoid color transfer. But, I love her so much. The size is perfect and the Fendi logos are subtle which is something I really look for in designer items. Skirt is from Eloquii and jacket is from Lane Bryant.

Casual Friday 2.0 Fashion Fail

Oh, how I wish I could go back in time and redo this look. My main gripe is with the pants, which are just so ill-fitting and loose that I had to use the shell to try and hold them up. So, essentially, this was my look shortly after we returned from holiday and my entire wardrobe was at the drycleaners.
But at least I had my Fendi bauletto to give it a snap of style and prevent it from being an entire flop, right?.....Right?

Prim and Proper Polkadots

I absolutely love this Avenue dress- it's classy, looks more expensive than it was and has a decent weight to it that prevents it from being wrinkly or flyaway. It's sleeveless so my Lane Bryant blazer makes it work appropriate. The finishing touch is my Michael Kors Hamilton satchel.

Wild for Casual Friday

Hurray for Friday! This week I decided to go a bit wild and went with my Lane Bryant leopard blouse and Eloquii crop pants. I've got a high-low thing going with my bag and shoes; the bag is Prada (pre-loved) and the shoes are from Payless. Somehow the shades of red worked perfectly together and complement the loud top.

Yellow Fever

Today would be a bad day for me to commit a crime, don't you think? The Eloquii shell and skirt are a beacon to my exact location and the jacket does little to conceal it. Today is a long day so I've got my laptop and flats in my Givenchy tote (free gift with perfume purchase!) . I picked the bracelet up from Lane Bryant a few weeks ago. Having picked up the shell and skirt in the last days of Eloquii for under $20 apiece this is one of my most frugal looks!

First Day of School

Yesterday Seth started school- he was fine, but I sat crying in my car after I dropped him off. I don't know exactly what did it, but at some point it finally dawned on me that my little guy is growing up.  Seth has been in daycare since he was about 4 months old so I just assumed that I was already used to the idea of him being in a school setting- very wrong. I looked at his face as he sat at his table with his new classmates and just realized that this would never happen again. Unless a strongly persistent stork breaks into our home, this is the first and last 'first day of school'. I asked Seth when I picked him up in the afternoon how his day went, and his response as simply: "Great!"

Pencils and Peplum

My two favorite style trends were on display today: peplum top and a pencil skirt. The shades of blue matched so well that several people commented on my 'new dress' not realizing that it was separates that they have seen on numerous occasions. Both pieces are from Eloquii and my mini satchel is from Coach.

Picnic, Anyone?

Seth took one look at my outfit today and asked me if I was going to work or a picnic. Once I was able to stop laughing, I had to agree that I did look like I was all set to go to a picnic- from the bright green Eloquii crop pants to my Lane Bryant boyfriend shirt. By the time you get to my Kate Spade basket handbag, it's pretty easy to imagine that I have a few sandwiches stashed in them. This is all part of my casual Friday 2.0 series- this one is perfect for the summer without looking sloppy.

Fendi Fever

I am so madly in love with my Fendi collection. My last purchase was the white Boston bag on the end and I can't wait to carry it. Of course there's my marrone B Bag, a wine Fendissime flat bag, a bauletto and my controversial vintage handbag (final verdict: it's authentic).

Fendi Collection

I really love the class of Fendi without the overt showiness of Louis Vuitton. I am particularly attracted to the specific bags in my collection: some are very formal, some are everyday ready and some are casual. All in all, I think I've made some great, sensible selections.

Casual Friday 2.0- Stripes and Fuschia

Here is another bold attempt to leave my comfort zone of solids and single colors. I had to fight my urge to pair this striped Eloquii shell with a simple black jacket, and instead I added a pop of color with my pink Gloria Vanderbilt blazer and Michael Kors Grayson bag. Later in the day I found that a simple paperclip was an excellent way to hold the wayward end of my skinny patent belt.

Embroidered Skirt by Eloquii

By the time you read this, Eloquii will be but a memory as they are already counting down their final hours. I was late to get on their bandwagon but I am glad to have a chance to get some wonderful items from them. This amazing skirt is one of my last buys from them- it has an intricate detail that I didn't feel could be captured from afar so I decided to do a 'down shot' that I've seen other bloggers do.
My version was significantly less glamorous but did the job of capturing the detail in the skirt as well as giving you a better look at my bag and shoes:

Lady-Like Lafayette

This look was everything I hoped it would be and yet so much more. The pairing of navy and lime is something I've only started to do recently and I love the result. I got this dress from K&G a few months ago and have it paired with a sateen blazer from Lane Bryant. This navy satchel was a birthday gift from my mother while we were in Paris (Galleria Lafayette brand) and my navy pumps are Fitzwell Dyana via Zappos.
This outfit is perfect for work, but also serves well if you've been invited for a tea party :).

Friday, August 9, 2013

I must admit, I'm still not sure these shades of yellow quite hit the spot. I was mainly concerned with not clashing with my new Vanessa Bruno tote (also a French acquisition). I love the design and structure of this bag and was drawn to it even though I hadn't heard of Vanessa Bruno in the handbag arena before.
I am a bit sad these days when I go through my Eloquii jackets- no one will ever make such perfect pieces!

Sweet, sweet Candy (Bag)

I can't tell you how many hours I spent on the Furla website stalking the Candy Bag. The neon green caught my eye but no matter how much I envisioned pairing it with a severe black suit, I just couldn't see it in my work wardrobe. While in Paris I strolled into the Furla store on the Champs Elysee and was struck by this leopard version which had just as much drama but with a decidedly more grown-up flair. Today I carried my new Candy bag with pride and had no regrets about bypassing the neon green version at all!

Blue on Blue

It wasn't until I looked at this photo at the end of the day that I realized that my Kate Spade Alessa was not quite the same shade of blue as my Eloquii skirt. But, somehow, it didn't all fall apart. What did 'fall apart' was the skirt which I thought seemed very interesting but devolved into a wrinkled mess by the end of the day. It also had a tendency to hike up in the back so I ended up showing a lot more bottom than I intended to. You will however be pleased to know that I did not need to pump gas on a windy day in this skirt...yet.

"This Old Thing?"

Usually when people reply to a compliment with "This old thing?" it's meant to be a modest reply, however, in my case today it was totally honest. This 'old thing' was hiding in the back of my closet, totally forgotten. It's a Lane Bryant sundress that I wore incessantly years ago when I purchased it, but eventually tired of. It's hard to tell from the photo but it has a lovely flounce in the hem so it's very ladylike and chic. I've paired it with one of my LB sateen jackets and have my Fendissime satchel to tie it all together.

Good to Be Home!

We had an amazing time in Paris and after 7 days we were ready to get back home. Today was my first day back to work and I carried my new Furla Papermoon that Dean got me for my birthday.

Stromae - Papaoutai

This music video came on TV today and I just had to share it with you- it is so unbelievably creative and innovative. The main hook is 'Dad, where are you" but you will get the gist just from the emotions and movements. C'est formidable!
