I've had my Asus 1018p for over 8 months now and since I've had my Galaxy Tab its been mainly occupying space beside my bed used to download and convert movies from my Tivo.
In the meantime, I've been looking for ways to get our Netflix working on every TV in our home- we use the Wii to get it on the den tv and this weekend I ordered a Roku box for the bedroom. In the study I was suddenly hit with a bolt of brilliance when I realized today that I could use VGA out and connect my ASUS running Netflix to the TV. And doing that allows me to continue using my desktop PC to work while I watch TV.
So, with that I've found yet another invaluable use for my netbook. Which makes it a compelling reason to keep it in my stable.

In the face of all the talk about the iPad2 I thought I'd have some temptation to go take a look at it, but then I asked myself what I could get out of it that I wasn't already getting from my Tab and the answer is....nothing. My Tab has got a very clearly defined role in my life-it fits right on top of my exercise bike so I can browse the news as I listen to music. Every evening I connect it to my netbook and copy over my TV shows from Tivo Desktop so I can watch them during my lunch in my car. I tote my Tab in my purse with ease and use it to show off photos, stream music and read books.
It's not perfect of course- if a thinner 7 inch tablet came out, I'd probably be interested in taking a look. And every now and then apps crash on it- sometimes hard enough for a spontaneous reboot. In fact, it was this that made me recently attempt to flash a new ROM. That project became a nightmare and I bricked my Tab. I was able to finally bring it back to life, but the experience was scary and disruptive enough that I decided not to attempt it again.
I can't imagine moving to a larger device. I also can't imagine moving to another OS- I love my homescreen widgets and the apps that work on both my Droid Pro and Tab. So kudos to those who got the new iPad- I'll be passing on the excitement for now.

When I made the transition from my Nexus One to my Droid Pro, one of the things I missed the most was the black notification bar. Its a small thing, but there's something very jarring about that bar being white.
I had looked in several forums to find out how to change it, and got scared off every single time as people talked about deodex, adb and other things that I just didn't feel comfortable messing with. 2 weeks ago as I browsed on eBay I found another Droid Pro being sold for under $200 and decided that I would buy it as a backup, and also as a safe environment for me to do all my testing.
Once the backup DP arrived, I dived in to Ninjamorph and found out how easy it is to change certain elements of the UI. But.....while its relatively straightforward to change the status bar color, changing the clock text color (to white) is quite complex. In the end I decided to settle with a dark gray which allows me to still see the black text.

After the first few days with the Macbook I decided that it did a lot of things I didn't need, and not enough of the things I did. One especially tough blow was that Tivo desktop issue. Then there were rumors of the upcoming batch of new Macbook. Eventually, I decided to return the Macbook- and once I did I felt a HUGE sensation of relief. Having $2,000 more in my wallet is an incentive to look for for some other thing. I just can't justify that expense for something I mainly use Firefox browsing on. Oh well.
